Symptom

When you create or edit a printing rule, the printer you choose does not stick. After you close the printer selection window, the rule switches back to a different printer, often a virtual printer such as Microsoft Print to OneNote, Send to OneNote, or Microsoft Print to PDF.

Applies to

Auto Print, Auto Print Pro, and Print On Demand. All three use the same per-printer page settings technique.

Cause

Each printer's page settings are cached in a small file inside your Documents\Sperry Software folder. If that file becomes stale or corrupted, the add-in can fall back to the first printer in the list instead of remembering your selection.

Fix

  1. Exit Outlook completely.
  2. Open your Documents folder, then open the Sperry Software subfolder.
  3. Look for a file named PageSettings - [PrinterName].xml, where [PrinterName] is the name of the printer that is being selected or that keeps coming back.
  4. Delete that file. It is safe to remove because it is regenerated automatically the next time it is needed.
  5. Restart Outlook, reopen the rule, and select your printer again.

If the file is not there, delete any other PageSettings .xml files and retry, since the settings may be cached under a different printer name.
